>hard
What do people mean by this? Unless it's in old english, joycian, or is some sort of self masturbatory philosophy tome, nothing short of fluid dynamics ought to be considered "hard". Most classics aren't any more difficult than children's novels. Mice and Men, Gatsby, Separate Peace, C&P. Are any of those difficult? I don't get it.

I remember when I bought plato's republic, the girl working there decided to tell me that she couldn't get on with his philosophy, and I just took that as "this objectivity hurts my feelings" and smiled politely.

OP, you really need to get over yourself. I mean, I get that she's forcing you into a social interraction that you'd rather not be part of, but jesus christ, if you can't handle this, how are you going to do a job interview? What if there's some emergency and your neighbors need your help/need to help you?
You're getting tripped up on a lady librarian, that's like the most noob easy mode of human interaction. Just be like "Yeah, I like the old stuff, I guess." That's literally all she expects.

Speaking of libraries I will be moving soon from Texas to New York City. Any New Yorkers know what the tipping rate for librarians is? Here in Texas, I usually don’t tip for just checking books Out or returning them. If they look something up for me and give me accurate directions on where to find it then I have no problem giving them a dollar. If they find some rare tome hidden away in the library dungeon and hand deliver it to me, I might go as high as a five dollar tip but that’s as high as I go.
Is this acceptable in New York City? Or is this tipping rate too low?
I don’t want to blow money unnecessarily, but I don’t want to look like a rube either.
