Not bad chart. Started lovecraft yesterday, read dagon. Was enjoyable and I'm going to go by your chart and read shadow of innsmouth next. That buildup to dagon was terrible. The whole story builds up to finally finding something up there, dagon appears for about 2 sentences, then disappears completely without actually knowing anything about him.

Tried to get into lovecraft previosuly by call of cthulhu but that failed. Badly.

>That buildup to dagon was terrible.
He was developing the idea of old things underwater. It's much better in call of cthulu but I for one can appreciate the idea of a giant land mass suddenly coming to the surface from the bottom of the ocean. Disgusting things long dead for eons rotting in the open air for the first time. An entire new land in the middle of nowhere and no one other than you knows about it or knows you're there. That's terrifying enough to me without the giant sea God worshipping fish creature.

Not knowing who/what Dagon is, what is he doing with the obelisk and why It appeared is part of the horror: there are great and powerful things in the water, far more ancient and sinister than we think and for them we are nothing (Dagon doesn't even acknowledge the protagonist, he is just a passive and involuntary spectator to that display of eldritch power).
That's just my opinion, though

I hope you have some good textbooks, or at least a nice exploration of mainstream and heterodox economics together. It's like the entire economics profession is built to obfuscate anything that doesn't allow crony capitalism and neoliberal globalism to continue unabated.

I just took my first macroeconomics class using Mankiw's book (and taking his class), but that book was a hot pile of garbage. Extremely wordy, oftentimes not clear, and never even close to detailed enough for the exams, so I stopped using it. I still managed to beat the curve and ace the class because I paid attention in section, but I'm pissed off that I wasted $100+ on a mediocre book that I can't even resell because every year requires an expensive online code. The only upside to the textbook is how it features blurbs from articles that highlight how fucking stupid modern economists can be. I guess the course is nice too if you want to watch powerful men like Larry Summers rant about Trump, ponder where within the range of 60-80% should the income tax be, and give infuriatingly stupid analogies to explain away glaring economic problems when pressed for clear answers.

i.e., I remember a piece by Olivier Blanchard addressing the IMF on the lessons of the 2008 recession, where he sincerely talked about how everybody thought that all you needed to do to monitor the financial system was plug in interest rates into formulas and leave it alone. No regulatory intervention necessary, transparency and accountability need not apply. Apparently, no economist cared about the internals of the economy or the nature of the subprime financial products being sold, only about overarching endogenous variables that, in reality, only facilitate the functioning of the financial market without examining the stability of its constituent parts. It's not like nobody couldn't see this coming, many people with skin of the game made bank off of the crisis because they didn't follow personality cults. So why can't everybody get their shit together?

I'm not an Austrian economist, a protectionist, a Fed skeptic, or anything partisan like that, but holy fuck is the economics profession spooked out of its fucking mind. Don't take any of these clowns seriously for your own good, and take extra precautions to shield yourself from the disasters that are going to happen thanks to this collective blindness.

Top economists talk shit about Keynes's book and how it contains tons of mathematical gibberish all the time. John Taylor immediately comes to mind as an example. Not like Keynes was wrong about anything, he had some good ideas (and some bad ideas that were good to be corrected), but you shouldn't learn Keynes from Keynes lol.

Every single other chart in this thread is completely derived from the creators tastes/what they have read, and you’re a dumbass if you think otherwise.

I'd estimate there's about 1000 unique books in this thread, so let's assume you read a book every week, maybe 20 years.

Aristotle and Rand are good -- so are Locke, Hume and Quine. Nietzsche is interesting.

Ignore Plato & Kant except in studying how things went wrong. Continental philosophy for the most part is garbage... The whole notion of the metaphysical is a red herring.
