The only way you'll create a realistic schizophrenic character, nothing will be as good as having a conversation with a schizophrenic and following/guiding their logic. Unfortunately, if you don't know any or happen to work in mental health, this becomes very difficult.
Apart from that, you need to understand that schizophrenia is a very broad diagnosis and there is incredible variation.
Maybe there is volunteering you can do somewhere?

>What language should I learn first?
Languages are made significantly easier to learn if you enjoy them, or enjoy the culture they are connected to. What language are you the most interested in? That's the one you should learn first.

>Reading what books will help me to deal with my insecurities?
Different answers for everyone. Depending first on what your insecurities are, and more importantly who you are. If I could give one suggestion from my experience, a few years ago I lost a lot of weight, and since then I have been a lot more confident. People will say things like accept the body you have, but from somebody that lived it that's bs.

>Is reading fiction pointless?
Depends. There are a lot of profound messages within fiction novels. Even if you do read something "pointless" though, was the time really wasted if you enjoyed it?

>On the Road by Jack Kerouac will turn any virgin into a chad.
>I wished I were a Denver Mexican, or even a poor overworked Jap, anything but what I was so drearily, a “white man” disillusioned. All my life I'd had white ambitions; that was why I'd abandoned a good woman like Terry in the San Joaquin Valley I passed the dark porches of Mexican and Negro homes; soft voices were there, occasionally the dusky knee of some mysterious sensual gal; and dark faces of the men behind rose arbors. Little children sat like sages in ancient rocking chairs. A gang of colored women came by, and one of the young ones detached herself from motherlike elders and came to me fast -- “Hello Joe!” -- and suddenly saw it wasn't Joe, and ran back, blushing. I wished I were Joe. I was only myself, Sal Paradise, sad, strolling in this violet dark, this unbearably sweet night, wishing I could exchange worlds with the happy, true-hearted, ecstatic Negroes of America.
Sounds a little self hating and self pitying to me

This is good advice. I have a friend who has had bouts of ongoing chronic paranoid schizophrenia. The only way I can talk to her during her worse episodes are to follow the strange (il)logic of her paranoia. Incredibly intelligent girl, with an interest in Jewish mysticism and post-structuralist philosophy, which makes her ramblings all the more fascinating and bizarre. She genuinely thought she was turning into a goat and that the oven was a gassing murder device that had killed her numerous times. You actually begin to find deep mtaphorical reasoning behind much of it; something the DSM-5 won’t give you. Weird stuff. Highly recommend.

Hi, this is my first time posting on /lit/, I need help. I'm trying to understand why I got so obsessed with pic related and how to find something similar. The plot is retarded, basically a sports anime with random edgy mafia stuff happening in the background, so please ignore it. The interesting part is the characters are always lying to each other and to themselves. It often made me feel completely out of the loop but it was weirdly enjoyable, I loved the lies and the character's reactions to finding out every little piece of information and finally the whole truth. Mystery, gossip and interesting characters. How do I find books like this?

I wouldn't major in lit outside of an Ivy or Oxbridge unless you want to become an English teacher. You'll need a lot of signalling value from your degree to compensate for the "poor" major choice. However, feel free to minor in it and remember most professors will be happy for people to sit in lectures and classes they're not taking, so if you're interested in a particular book or author that might be a better path to take.

studying philosophy properly means studying its history

studying philosophy properly always means hermeneutically understanding what you're studying, understanding its historical milieu, the layered epistemes and discourses it participated in, etc. even if you want to do transcendental, non-discursive, non-linguistic philosophy, you have to take the linguistic turn, which is a fundamentally historical/historicist turn.

there are shitty historians of philosophy who are basically just intellectual historians who never fucking do real philosophy. but you don't have to be one of those guys. read dilthey and heidegger and later wittgenstein and look at the history of philosophy as a fluid continuum of super smart dudes trying to break through into the transcendental by churning always-already-available discourse up into abstractions

also read coleridge's biografia literaria

i'm biased as an historian of philosophy (and drunk) but definitely definitely read philosophy historically, it's not a "way" of reading philosophy, it IS philosophy
