Marcus is a bore. His book ain't bad at all, but its a dreary, repetitive slog. Seneca on the other hand is an absolute joy, and Epictetus is pretty fun as well.

Aurelius's writings were personal "get your shit together" maxims (though "no fun allowed" is accurate enough too)
Seneca is a stoic but is quite witty in his letters, and feels like a wise grandfather giving you advice through experience
Epictetus was pretty up-front about having to "live" the philosophical lifestyle, lest you turn into a ps*ud

>> No.11126060

The Brothers Karamazov genuinely changed my outlook on life. It was stuff I'd always heard and sort of known, but something about the story actually lets you "see" it all playing it out, and explains the necessity of the virtues it promotes, not through dry discourse but through highly relatable characters.
Every time I read it I'm amazed at how many layers there are and how every subplot is woven together.
