What do you think of Sylvia Plath's works?

She's a woman and she suicided (in a retarded manner as well).
Both red flags for not having anything meaningful to say.

Confessional poetry is too often boring and stale and she doesn't really make a difference, even if she wrote one or two good poems.

She's annoying in all the obvious ways. And she's been adopted by all the obvious annoying people.

But...

...that said, she's pretty good.

(You just have to allow for the whole lunatic / self-obsessed / self-pitying schtick.)

For me, her biggest fault - and one that makes her unendurable in large doses - is that she has practically no sense of humour. You can't read The Arrival of the Bee-Box or Mirror or Pheasant or Sheep in Fog or Tulips and tell me she didn't have talent, though.

I read one of her poems in my mandatory freshman english course and it wasn't good at all.
>women are oppressed
>all men are evil
>also my dad is litterally hitler
It read like a strawman parody of feminist literature. Also the over use of holocaust/nazi symbolism came of as lazy and sensationalist. I can't remember what this poem was called though. Are her other poems better?

>> No.11131779

>>11131654
That’s a misinterpretation of Daddy. What the poem is saying is that women under patriarchy are doomed to forever be in control of a man, whether it be her father or her husband. She doesn’t think all men are evil, just that men want to eliminate the will, independence, and maybe even existence of women much like Nazis did with Jewish people. The murder of her husband at the end is a call to arms for women’s liberation.

She isn’t sensationalist, she claims her mother was descended from polish gypsies, so she’s really talking about her legit family history with the holocaust.

She has more nuanced poems than Daddy though.

[Assuming you're a man...]

Heterosexual sex is gay. Think about it. You're having sex with a person who likes men. What could be gayer than that?

Similarly , having sex with a homosexual man is gay, because you're still having sex with someone who likes men.

You could have sex with a lesbian, but that has other problems, and is selfish, because she won't enjoy it.

The only way for a man to have truly non-gay sex is to find another heterosexual man and have sex in a non-gay way.
