when people say they struggle with math I usually think they mean with calculus or complex numbers then they say its just basic algebra, like how? that should just be common sense, in school you have to learn far more complex topics, its the equivalent of saying you find reading literature hard and it turns out you can't even spell "cat"

THE PRECEPTS OF CHIRON
Fragment #3—Plutarch de Orac. defectu ii. 415 C:
>'A chattering crow lives out nine generations of aged men, but a stag's life is four times a crow's, and a raven's life makes three stags old, while the phoenix outlives nine ravens, but we, the rich-haired Nymphs, daughters of Zeus the aegis-holder, outlive ten phoenixes.'

this doesn't make sense, I can understand the math easy but a diagonal can't have a diagonal its an oxymoron, just because the diagonal of a big square is bugger than that of a small square doesn't mean anything, hes basically just saying in a long winded way of saying 4<2, what is this suppose to prove?

"The Stranger here appeals to a specialty of Theodorus and his pupils: the use of diagonals to identify and commensurate incommensurables suchs as the square root of two. This obscure mathematical joke reveals that, like his mathematician friends, the Stranger through his method of division commensurates things are in fact incommensurable: humans and pigs."

Before that, the Stranger was criticizing Socrates for separating humans and beasts, saying Socrates was lumping all beasts together like Greeks called all unrelated non-Greeks "Barbarians". However he missed Socrates point of distinction between Rational and Non-rational. So he moved on to create a common measurement for humans and pigs.
