Does he have his own "Christopher Tolkien" to pick up the work once he keels over and dies? Or will it be completely over once he's gone?

The George RR Martin is immunized against all dangers: one may call him lazy, a hack, a profiteer, a failed TV writer, it all runs off him like water off a raincoat. But ask him to actually release a Game of Thrones novel and you will be astonished at how he recoils, how injured he is, how he suddenly shrinks back: “I’ve been working on other things”

The problem is is that he doesn't seem to realise that he's a grossly overweight septuagenarian

he wrote himself into a corner with all the magic and "chosen one" type stuff and seeing the show has made him realise how stupid it is. probably got rid of everything and has a deal with sanderson or some other hack to finish it off

>> No.11060513

>>11060490
this more or less. he let the fame get to him and tired to blow the shit out too big, changed the complexion of the whole thing, got senile too. it's almost the honorable thing to do at this point to just go ahead and not finish

He hasnt written himself in a corner at all, he has loads of options to go down in the book. The only exception is the white walker shit.

he got 2 already, I hear, they wrote that lore book released past year, "with" him.

I don't know about that, at least in terms of his writing. the most recent books were the least crowd-pleasing. it could never end well from the start, the others just don't work well with the rest of the story

Pretty sure fantasy authors are the main writers of stupidly long series in the first place.

>> No.11061853

it's highly unlikely that Sanderson will finish it. he couldn't read past A Game of Thrones because it offended his delicate Mormon sensibilities. maybe someone from his (defunct?) writing group like Daniel Abraham would do finish it, if GRRM wants someone to finish out the series, or maybe even Steven Erikson or Mark Lawrence.

i don't treat D&D's fanfiction show as legitimate, and I probably won't take the ending seriously either, so if he dies and doesn't nominate a successor it will just remain unfinished for me.
