There's little purpose to justify his use of Spanish, this stylistic choice offers enough retroactive justification for the violation of his agujero de culo. It's a staple of this idiotic foreign writers who don't study language beyond the facile appropriation. But think how ridiculous Fante would come off if he used Italian words for no reason at all while talking about his loneliness, about his ambitions, in his descriptions.
