It's really entertaining when getting into the rhythm of it, becoming comfortable with the vocabulary, but that takes time- maybe the whole of Book One (one of the weaker books imo)- so it takes a little patience as well. The Mutabilitie Cantos (a little chunk of one of the unfinished later books) are positively lovely, and perhaps as good a place as any to begin acclimating oneself to Spenser's world.

I had to read it in college and it was one of the most painful works I've ever had to endure. So fucking boring. Not a particularly important piece of literature either so the only real point is for the psued cred. Personally I wouldn't bother.

Page after page of Spenserian Stanza creates a strong atmosphere and Spenser's imagery is top tier. I really need to return to this work.
