>be me
>be 27 year old ugly beta loser loner autist with no friends or social experiences since school, no female attention ever, never been to a pub, club, or party
>woke up at 11 am
>read for a few hours while drinking coffee
>got an email saying I failed a graduate assessment centre when they told me I passed it weeks ago- they'll offer me a slightly worse job but I planned to leave the employer as soon as I could anyway
>decided not to bother going in to work today
>went to the gym and the workout was pretty good
>went out to the library to feel less alone
>went to mcdonalds
>had coffee
>binged on junk food at home

What a boring life. I thought I had successfully passed as a normie for an interview but seemingly not. It's impossible to have a career in the UK if you're not posh or one of da ladz. I'm feeling more pessimistic about my future now

>> No.10918962

well here is an idea-
>5am wake up
>20minutes of hard cardio or strength training (20 seconds on, 10 seconds rest deep breathing)
>cold shower and big breakfast to warm you up
>take a walk around your neighborhood a 6-6:30 to see what is going on and stretch your legs
>read for a few hours and practice a creative hobby, taking breaks to stretch and drink water

>8am now continue your day normally

i can't force you to cut caffeine or bad food or convince you that your mind is sick because your body is weak. but if you give me 2-3 hours in the morning every day (as above) in 6 months you will be an improved person.

I try to keep my problems as separate as possible for clarity purposes. Lifting does not make you smarter. Waking up early isn't a panacea.

All this hoorah bullshit is laughable. I'm not a lefty but literally every single advance in society is by a 50 lbs frappucino drinking nu male looking person from California, New England, or the south of England. All these hoorah types who are on Joe Rogan every week talking about #work suspiciously never do anything the tiniest bit intellectual even though surely all it takes is #work

What does this have to do with /lit/?

>> No.10919127

>>10919108
i dont. i came here regularly up to about a year ago but i got bored with the repetitive nature of the board. Bank holiday today so I am having a chilled one and thought i'd see what /lit/ is up to. Doesn't seem to have changed very much, still just cormac mccarthy, stoner, the meme trio, meme philosophies.
Naturally reddit is even worse. Asking seriously: where is good for a decent varied discussion about books which isn't a reptitious circle jerk echo chamber? is it possible for such a place to even exist?

>It's impossible to have a career in the UK if you're not posh or one of da ladz

As much as I can't slice between the irony of this meme for love nor money that's kind of true from my own experience of LONDON. If you're reasonably into lit then I assume you like arts and culture so you should try to get into that type of industry as it's a lot nicer overall. You'll have to work your way up though. You ain't getting an editorial assistant job at the Tate if you're not a posh sod with plums in your mouth.

Or tech start-ups. They pay like shit but it's better than trying to get into finance as a working class boy (they'll all laugh at you and ask you to sweep their chimneys).

Failing that, go to Bristol or MADchester. Reasonably decent places that aren't full of beardy folk with skinny jeans drinking their craft lager out of genetically modified coconuts.*

*Just kidding. They are. Everywhere is.

People gravitate towards like-minded folk. If you want to engage in conversation about different books then you'll have to find places where you know nothing about the books and adapt to what they're talking about.

We all did that here yet everybody acts like we were born with heightened knowledge of the /lit/ canon in utero. You all forget. You're forgetful folk.

I don't know about that. I just want somewhere that people talk about a genuine range of stuff. Here the threads are always the same because it seems most posters have only ever read the /lit/ "canon". On reddit they only talk about worthless YA because that's all they've ever read. As a consequence in both places threads about other books or subjects not on the approved list end up with no replies. Why can't there be a place where people obviously will have their own hobby horses but who have read relatively widely and are prepared to actually discuss hooks instead of just posting "just finished Stoner lads let's all congratulate ourselves". I don't like the idea of being part of seventeen literature communities in order to have somewhere to discuss all the books I like and I also don't like the idea that posters in those communities will be self-congratulatory for reading and talking about how great books are but will yet be resistant to discussing anything they haven't got the community-approved take on from previous threads.

And actually before lit I did read/know about most of the books lit goes on about because they're pretty entry level (or at least well known) and because outside of 4chan/reddit I read pretty widely about books as well as reading books themselves. The only people who have really learned from coming to /lit/ must have come here more or less with no prior knowledge of books

OP here. I want to emphasise that walking through the university of London area is satisfyingly soul crushing. Satisfying because the honesty of the scene is refreshing in a world which says "No, being ugly is no big deal, being in your late 20s is no big deal!!11"

You just need to walk through the area at busy times to realise what you've missed out on

I'm a masters student. 26. I hang out with undergrads a fair bit. They're a pain in the arse; they have neither a secure sense of self nor interesting hobbies to call their own. Lovely people but 'missed' out my arse. You're a fool and a jive turkey.

Trump does this for me. He's rich and powerful, has had an insane level of advantages in life, and he's still a complete pleb. Which wouldn't necessarily be a problem, of course- plenty of uncultured, uneducated people are perfectly happy. But he also seems fundamentally unhappy with life, which is just the worst of both worlds. Remarkable tbph

>> No.10919241

>>10919217
Undergrad was 'fun' but ultimately unfulfilling. Drinking, drugs, trying to 'pull'. I got laid a handful of times, despite three years of trying. I regret most of it and have since lost touch with everyone from those days who are in their mid-to-late 20s and still living the same life. I wish I'd've spent more of that time reading and writing. It was, however, better than being a complete loner autist.

OP's talking about essentially having no social contact. Unless you're really psychologically unusual, I think it's perfectly legit to see that as missing out. I had some experience of it in my mid-teens (got better, thank God) and it was devastating. Imagining it continuing into my university years is genuinely horrifying.

You sound like a real bitch.
If you want to discuss something literary, make a thread. Maybe someone else has read it. Maybe you'll lead someone to read it and contribute to diversifying the board.
Maybe start a thread about uncommon books/hidden gems, or a specific book. "I've never seen anyone on /lit/ mention 'insert book here', what do you guys think of it?".
Do something about it you fag.

Seconded. If you have a general interest across literature, philosophy, arts, etc. as you mention but also want to discuss other things in your everyday life (other common topics at the minute include football, tea and driving) then this place is golden. They also play do playalongs to University Challange which is fun.

I have done, they got no attention in favour of "what I expected/what I got" or "I hate women" threads. I'm not invested in this board any more like I said, I just came back to see if tastes had changed and they haven't.
I was once kind of pals with someone who had been on /lit/ for a long time and she her take on it was people should come here and enjoy but eventually anyone who really is into books will outgrow the kind of discussion that prevails here - especially in terms of works that are discussed. Hence the /lit/ exitcore chart. If you've read the books lit likes it's time to go. Of course you can stay and stagnate if your prefer
