I loved Notes from Underground because the main character was an accurate portrayal of myself. It is actually an accurate portrayal of humanity itself but few people will realise it. People who are satisfied with nothing but the truth will be able to relate to the underground man easily because they cannot make up their minds to believe in any religion, mathematical formulae, language, science and they are very conscious of the bondage that is created by interest in objects, passion, addictions, etc. So they are left with nothing but their thoughts which will question everything and eventually they will question their own thoughts which is humorously portrayed by Dostoevsky. People who seek satisfaction from Reddit, YouTube.... to run away from the emptiness of life will not like the book. They are willing to settle for distractions rather than the truth about the need for such distractions. The underground man is so obsessed with what is true that he is willing to suffer immensely than give himself up to some meaningless numbing activity except for reading, which too he later despises. If only he had found meditation like I did, he would have really flourished. I deeply respect the book and believe it is the most consciously aspiring, truthful document of a person you will ever find on earth! I heavily urge you to re read the book with said things in mind. You will find you have the same underground man beneath you!

I find the underground man an accurate portrayal of myself as well. I hate myself but also I'm a human depiction of vanity and would rather be admired than accepted, just like the underground man
