Ok, let's take this as on occasion to explain to some people why old science doesn't sound as stupid as it might be.
Whenever you start analyzing a physical phenomenon, you work under a very long list of assumptions such as "this thing isn't influenced by metaphysical beings" and "this thing can reliably be understood through reasoning and empirical testing" and "this thing should be understood under the light of previous, solid discoveries we've made in this field of enquiry" and "there are probably ways of measuring this thing".
When people did "science" or "natural philosophy" back then, they either didn't have these assumptions or they didn't look banal at all to them. Moreover, given that they had very little previous "science" to work with, they had the extremely heavy burden of making the first discoveries on each and every subject.
Take for example bloodletting. How stupid, you might say. Why the hell would you think that removing blood from someone would make them feel better? Well, think about it: what happens when you get a cut? What happens if you get certain kind of pulmonary diseases? What happens when you get certain urinary infections? Blood comes out of you and then after a while, this stops happening and you get better (or you die, but if you die, the blood probably never stops coming out). So someone who knows nothing about anything sees this and thinks "hey, what if blood coming out is the way our body heals itself? Maybe there's too much blood inside, the body tries to get rid of it and if it succeeds, you get better and no more blood comes out". And this isn't wrong at all, in a certain sense, see for example pus.

So, when you see the ancients saying stuff like this, try to reason from the perspective of someone who not only doesn't know any science, but probably doesn't even know the presuppositions that one needs in order to do science.

No, he is stupid because he took what little he was allowed to learn from the Platonic school and its metaphorical, metaphysical, and religious understanding of the elements and other concepts that he takes literally (incorrectly) to ‘make’ sciences and completely fucked up the good thing that the platonists has going. Fuck Aristotle. He had daddy issues and should have killed himself when he was rejected by the actual thinkers of the time. He really made a mess of things. Fuck him.

>wah wah philosophical theories of the world must be spooky and mystical wah wah

Aristotle was literally a rationalist and essentialist in the same vein as Plato. The only difference is that he locates essence within the subject as opposed to outside it. It's still a highly metaphysical notion

If you aren't at least moderately familiar with Aristotle's natural philosophy, logic and ontology, you need to leave this board and stop talking about philosophy forever

I don't understand this mindset, we need more posters, do we not? Why not make a few janitors, who are given a wage to have life's necessities but are not given any more? We may call them guardians. These guardians protect our board from invading redditors, or other boards, though we should preserve the sanctity of each board by not shitposting... Whichever guardian falls in battle may be taken as a prize, but we fill our guardian ranks with the best of wit. The other classes of our ideal website would be the meme makers and genre readers, for we need these threads to catch most of the shitposters before they shit up the guardian threads. Whenever an anon ascends to guardian level by reading flowcharts, we may let them debate in the symposium. To keep the board being overly saturated with what we really hold dear, Classical philosophy, we shall also have stack threads to lure away the sad insta (male)thots.

No. Who said that? We have more posters than a few years ago, however this place is shit now for most of the time. We need less posters and more janitors to clean up this mess.

The concept of natural space presumes that all fire-like elements go up and all soil-like elements go down because they are more heavy and complex.
This concept is basically Aristotle's attempt to grasp gravity but of course he knew nothing about the true essence of gravity back then.
