Because, I feel it so strongly; It must be true, it must, it must, it must! Also, soci3ty man--how could we have this complexlyrics organized society without them? Utilitarianism is the key to the Locke. It's so simple guys, the Truth has been in front of our faces the entire time

Why do you keep pretending that divine command theory has any rational basis?

I think it's because it makes us feel better to think that our various moralities are based in reason, rather than some harder to quantify bedrock of passion and instinct. If people's ethical decisions are purely rational, then we have an easier time negatively attributing fault and blame in others while rationally justifying our own actions completely post hoc. The illusion of free agency makes the world a neater place.

Jonathan Haight's book The Righteous Mind does an excellent job addressing this question. Definitely worth a read.

Because saying "Murder is bad" to a child is easier than explaining to then that despite moral uncertainty people can engage in a social contract that certain counterproductive and inconvenient behaviors are generally agreed to be discouraged by a legal system that may or may not even be run by the people at all.

ITT: because pragmatic reasons!

Why do people keep pretending that valuing the pragmatic has any rational basis?

>> No.10838277

Because διάνοια (ratio, reason) is merely a potentia with the prupose of being a basis for Knowledge attained with the dialectical νούς (translatable as intellect, i guess.)

Plato already solved all this and german idealism made it into a Science. Read Plato.

Because if it weren't for morality leading to the rise of civilized society, you wouldn't have had the privilege of sitting in comfort, in a house bought by your parents, making this edgy and immature post.

And how about lies of omission? How about self-preservation induced lies? From where is this categorical dictum derived? Have you ever fantasized fucking a family member? Do you think you'll be successful?
