IKTF anon, there is a German publishing house called "dtv" (Deutscher Taschenbuch Verlag) whose books literally ALL used to have the worst and ugliest covers in the business. We had to buy and read those books at school. I hated them so much because of the ugly covers. Really offputting.

A bad cover on a good book is very annoying.

Pic is the original Catch-22 I first read many years ago. Startling different vibe from the modern cover with the little dancing stick-man in the bottom corner.
