I'm looking to build up a list of fiction books that are light reading so I can take a break from serious stuff every once in awhile. Any suggestions? Genre fiction is welcome.

Lots of speculative fiction worth reading/listening to, you could also try short fiction collections

I'd say Hyperion, Strange Tales from a Chinese Studio and Ubik mostly because they're in recent memory and I enjoyed them.

Agatha Christie books are a good, fun, and short read. And they are still considered classics.

I have two books of post-apocalyptic short stories to read when I need a break from the serious stuff. I think they're called "Stories from the Wastes" or something like that. Some deal with serious issues, but they're "genre" and short enough to feel like a break.

I also like Sherlock Holmes short stories (along the same vein).
