Why do you read /lit/?

>> No.10709349

Not for any noble goal. I just like it.

I look hot on the train. There's no actual text in the hardcover classics I read. It's usually snippets of some retro Playboy I ordered. But, I do get the gander of some qt's whilst I am half-mast from the lewds.

they can be good but not enough for my taste, probably because /lit/ is a text heavy and slow moving board.

If you don't think capitalism isn't fundamentally flawed, you're deluding yourself.

Jesus, that's sad. Is this what happens to capitalists? Always needing to be stimulated? Maybe you could try >>>/pol/. It may be more to your tastes.

Because I fear the pull of history and I believe that knowledge can help me break free of it.

Because when I don't read I want to kill myself.

Because TV irritates me and makes me feel like I'm living in the Brave New World, which is why my taste is deliberately eclectic--I fear that by conforming my ability to think clearly will be compromised.

Solid survey, it gets some hate but I'm a fan. I mostly focus on cultural/art history so I'm not the most qualified person to speak about that topic, but if you want a more fleshed out survey on the Revolution you can't go wrong with Figes (despite the fact that he sperged out online writing bad reviews of other scholars on Amazon under a pseudonym, pretty sad and funny at the same time). If you want some recs for cultural history of the revolutionary/Stalinist period (and how they're closely interrelated despite western misconceptions fueled by Trotskyist memers) I would check out Clark's The Soviet Novel: History as Ritual (pretty essential) and Groys' Total Art of Stalinism (not essential but entertaining and provocative af). Not a fan of Trotsky because he attempts to whitewash the Leninist project and pretend like it would have had a utopian outcome if he had only led the way.

Not really. Everyone ought to have the same opinions on what's good for humanity so that we all can effectively cooperate for a greater cause.

>Everyone ought to have the same opinions on what's good for humanity so that we all can effectively cooperate for a greater cause.
I too reject moral relativism and think we ought maintain some universal ethics. Diversity of opinions is a different matter however, a diversity of thought is very important.

How can you know what the greater cause is if no one contests your views?
It means you become unable to reaffirm your ideas and you'll never be certain if they're the right ones. Having someone to argue against you is always a good thing.
