Tamora Pierce. She does mainly YA stuff,but it's intelligent and well reasoned. A lot of her audio books are semi performed with several actors accompanying the authoress as narrator. Also,Artemis Fowl is fun,and Faffrd and the Grey Mouser series is also entertaining if not deep.
