Why's it more popular to be a minimalist instead of being a maximalist?
What makes somebody good enough to make the latter enjoyable?

Bad maximalism is more obvious than bad minimalism, as Mr. Foster Wallace so kindly proves.

Some people (lit) enjoy reading larger works for various reasons (prestige/diccontest)

Dante concluded maximalism, you can't actually make a text as ridiculously dense as the comedy.

Information obtained from serious works of literature is deposited in the brain as a special kind of brain matter. Therefore, reading more pages produces larger, litter brains.

Because none knows how to read and none knows to write
The only one who can do maximalist <good fiction> is William Vollmann

Minimalism is much easier to write, especially if you are an inexperienced author. It's also easier to read. This is why normies are attracted to it lately: in this age of shortened attention span, we lack the patience required to read or write maximalist novels, at least for the general populace.

longer book = greater time spent in book's world = more time spent getting to know and empathize with characters = greater emotional response to events befalling these characters = greater net enjoyment of book

I have the opposite opinion in everything, maximalist works always have something happening so they are easier to read than a long drawn out work of minimalism where the simplicity is what you should enjoy
