What is it about Irish writing that's so damn comfy? I just finished reading this and it was some of the most warm (albeit with some sour scenarios) prose I've ever read in my life. And as much as Joyce seemed to be against Yeats' whole revivalist ideal they both have that same sort of comfy magical essence in their writing that feels so distinctly Irish. How do they do it??

What's your favorite story out of here? Although it's only my first read I'd say mine are The Dead, Little Cloud, and The Sisters. I haven't read any other Joyce yet but I know this is supposed to have been his most accessible. Does it only get better from here?

Yes. Does that skew my perception of this in some way? I wouldn't be surprised but I'm curious.

From Jimmy "Heartless" Joyce himself:
>Dubliners strictly speaking are my fellow countrymen, but I don't care to speak of our 'dear dirty Dublin' as they do. Dubliners are the most hopeless, useless, inconsistent race of characters I have ever come across on the island or on the continent. This is why this English Parliament is full of the greatest windbags in the world.

If you think Dubliners is comfy, wait til you read the opening "childhood" section of APOTAAAYM
