So I just finished this book- excellent read- and was looking for further reading recommendations. Particularly searching for books to challenge how I think about the world (new years resolution is to expand my literary horizons). So /lit/ help me out

The warped text was too gimmicky for me. Felt like I was playing with one of those children toys where you have to navigate a metal ball inside a plastic sphere.

It's a very obvious affect, but it's not too terrible when you get into it. It's just a bit of an adjustment to see how it's an active reflection of the narrative, it adds another layer to the style.

more Danielewski? HoL is his best but Only Revolutions was interesting. He falls on the wrong side of gimmicky/inventive too often.

if you want more meta-textual stuff you could check out The People of Paper by Salvador Plascencia.
have you read One Hundred Years of Solitude? Magical realism might be something you'd enjoy.

I was at a reading he did for The Familiar. Leafing through it, it seemed interesting. Haven't gotten around to reading through the first season yet, though.

I'm currently reading it but I often find myself cringing with the tattooer's parts. That guy is so fucking edgy.
