Have you read him? Most of his stuff is shamelessly unsubtantiated, but it nevertheless pans out. i.e. the concepts of the anima and the animus. Men look for an idea partner, women look for as many connections as they can make even if they must restrict their sexual activity (which they don't seem to mind to much if there is no bounds on social activity).

I’m baited, but maybe a different angle: ________ is smart is a stupid conversation starter and topic in general. Most of the value I get out of Jung is from his interpretations of other people’s material. His interests aim to ends that I hope to achieve, and these ends are not ‘trying to prove some point for pride’ but immortal fulfilled conscious existence. If you don’t accept the possibility, fuck it, I haven’t found many Jung supporters to be evangelical about their support for him. Sure, they’ll defend him and bring him up when it is relevant, but his work isn’t being pushed on you. Point is: much of the value his work has provided me with derives from other people’s original content, but Jung seemed to bring together the right ideas and resources to create a very useful 20 pounds of pages. Eh, I have never heard a person say, ‘I used to be a Jungian’ because everyone I know that has ACTUALLY read his works in detail sees brilliance in his thought. I bit on the bait. I don’t regret it. Yet

All I’ve read is the first essay inMan and His Symbols, and I feel like he managed to establish a really useful metaphorical framework for the human experience. Not the metaphor, or the best one, but a very valid one.

And I acquired Peterson immunity, so that’s nice.
