Modern Man in Search of a Soul is quite good to get into his work imo

If you want a more general overview, start with the portable jung, edited by joseph campbell

Gives good coverage of his main ideas

I read the Modern Library print of "The Basic Works of C.G. Jung" and it was a pretty good start. Followed it by Man and His Symbols and I'm glad I did it in that order even if it may have been harder, let's say? Because it gave me a more clear reading of Man and His Symbols since I didn't have to stop for terminology. The Basic Writings volume has an 80-or-so-page chapter of definitions, although it's strangely about 2/3 through the book. I might recommend reading that part first if you do pick it up, or just read it online if you can find it. Modern Man in Search of a Soul really underwhelmed me after those two books, however. Man and His Symbols was like a big exposé into a lot of dream analysis cases which I really enjoyed and so I was maybe misguided in hoping Modern Man would carry more of that. In my opinion, The Origins and History of Consciousness by Jung's student Erich Neumann is a better follow-up to Man and His Symbols, if you go that route.
