Hello /lit/

I am a complete pleb, I have never read books in my life, I was always into sports and always neglected and talked down on reading

However as I got older, I am starting to appreciate reading more and more, and would really like to get into it.
For reference, I have read a lot of practical books (i am majoring in computer science), and I am very interested in history and philosophy

Does /lit/ have any Starting Literacy program I can hop on? I was thinking of reading the works of Marcus Aurelius or something

Thanks in advance

Don't start with a work philosophy if you've never read a full book.
Read short stories and novellas first, then novels. Eventually move onto philosophy if you really want to.

The Stranger is easy philosophical fiction so start there, then move onto whatever you want next. Nobody reads the sticky but it's got a lot of books and most the charts posted here are good reads as well.

i have read a few books, i read all the time since it is part of my work, so it's not hard for me to read, i regularly go through 900 page books for my profession

I really dislike fiction, i only like "functional" books such as meditations or philosophy, i think its condescending to myself to read short bedtime stories

You're not condescending to yourself enough. Don't worry, you've come to the right place for that.

If you don't want to read fiction then all this board is good for is recommending philosophy, in which case start with the greeks

This guy is right
I used to be a "fiction is useless!!1!1" guy but then i read catcher in the rye and i really liked it, fiction describes reality in a entertaining way

fiction really doesn't interest me, the most fiction i handled is Decameron or Inferno from Dante Alighieri, only because its very thinly veiled fiction

Any specific greek i should start with?

some good books in there OP. start with easy fiction, because most the non fiction worth reading takes brains and commitment.
