I've started taking composition lessons when I was 7, and have read in the last 16 years literally hundreds of books on the subject, studied thousands scores and spent a good 30% of my life doing composition exercises.
At this point it just comes natural to me.

In you case, I honestly don't know. I'm sure that you need a composition teacher, and you need to frantically read and apply into exercises as many theory/melody/harmony/counterpoint books as possible. Practice is king, and no amount of talent will make you produce actual great music (the one that will be remembered in 500 years from now) without craft.

It's not impossible though, I don't think that your age plays a big part in this field (it does, though, if you want to become a great pianist or violinist).

Start by buying a keyboard or renting a piano (it's cheaper than what you'd expect) and do exercises on it until you achieve complete hands independence. From then on you can start studying theory and doing ear training (the most important thing you'll learn to do if you will become a composer).
