I think I've figured out why all of the misogyny on /lit/ is aided by its majority female userbase. Women don't know how to talk to each other as equals, they see themselves through the way they see their relationship with men.

Of course our discussions run into trouble sometimes – we are trying to communicate with each other as humans, and this is a skill that we have never seen demonstrated. Has it ever even been proven possible? I have no idea how to talk as a human, to other humans. I’ve only been trained, since birth, how to talk as an object to potential and actual oppressors, and to other objects which are more or less pleasing to the oppressors than I. The languages I speak, the only languages I’ve ever heard spoken, are made of fear, aggression, dominance, compliance, and appeasement. We can’t know for certain if there is any other language for us to communicate in—we’ve never heard it, but we’re trying.

not this feminism shit again

>> No.902155

Try some books on Semiotics to learn how language can be less oppressive. I'm thinking probably Foucault could help you out. Also, Deleuze is pretty radical. I don't know if I agree with your assumptions, that the userbase is majority female.

>> No.902163

In the Culture novels the language they use in the culture is specifically designed to avoid problems such as the one that concerns you, OP. They use one pronoun for all intelligent creatures, be they female, male, or robotic.

>majority female userbase
No.

I love the idea of this topic, but /lit/ is not philosophy.

>> No.902173

I don't agree with most of your assumptions. As if it's women's fault on /lit/ for an inevitable cultural backlash amongst middle-class males (mostly white) that's been 30 years coming and is raging strong. You're totally disregarding the atmosphere of privilege and bias.
I'm hoping troll.

It's not their fault, but they do help to perpetuate it and support it. Whenever we have a female bashing thread some female always defends the males bashing the women and praises traditional gender roles. In turn, she bases the women who disagree with her perception of the proper female relationship with men, and they bash her for her perception of that relationship.

The idea that we can just edit words out of our language and magically the accompanying emotions and ideas will disappear is outright lunacy.

Dehumanization is not just a problem for women, and while I recognize that women are targets of objectification, I would like you to note that men are equally oppressed under this, and it isn't just the women who are promoting this oppression when they side with the men, but the men as well. Not only this, but a lot of the promotion takes the form of passive complicity.

No, I am perfectly serious. This is why ''womens studies" is becoming ''gender studies''. To truly understand the oppressive nature of the patriarchy, and all forms of cryptic and outright fascism, is to understand that we are all oppressed by it. Men suffer because of the same stereotypes, e.g. a man is the earner, for instance. Fuck that I'll be like bartleby the scrivener instead. The list could go on, but do you see what I'm getting at?

I understand what you're saying since it's basically just a Marxist way of viewing human relationships. I don't think men have to put up with it like women do even if they do experience it on some level.

I understand that, and honestly I do see that women are subjected to a lot worse in terms of material oppression (ever wonder why lesbian couples are often impoverished while gay male couples are often well off?) but, I do think we need to incorporate the universal nature of oppression, maybe just to give more men a vested interest...

>> No.902237

>>902215

Mhmm, I agree. Understanding women without understanding men doesn't work; from a historical perspective, at least, women have largely been defined by their attachment to a man. How can you look at what a particular gender is without looking at what helped shape that gender into what it is today?

>> No.902238

I wish there really was a /wo/ board, for women. That way, we could see exactly what women would do if left to themselves. Sure, there would be the usual male trolls, but would women actually feel better if left in a completely sterile environment? Or would some need to start playing the victim again?

It is, and it's kind of an obscure fact. I was exposed to gay culture as a kid (my mom was lesbian at the time) and so this idea came to me empirically at first, and later I did find some ancillary evidence for this, statistically speaking, in a magazine article. It's rather fascinating to think about, and the entire gay culture can be an interesting thing to look at, but I already have too many interests to specialize in that one as well.

'Why don't men respect women?'

Why? Because you are weak. How can a man respect a woman, or see her as an equal, when she can't stand up for herself, take responsibility for her actions and show some fucking backbone? If I saw one woman that didn't hide behind the residual chivalrous values we have here in the West, I'd respect her. If I saw one woman that could do something other than throw empty insults and tantrums, I would consider her an equal. So far, I've seen no women worthy of respect.

>> No.902378

I've always been under the impression that women are most concerned with how other women think men see them.

You're damn right. I don't give a fuck how women OR men see me, and I've never been happier. The fact is, you are told to be mentally and physically weak; you are told to be objects, something you accept so that you can be accepted by both men and women. Why men objectify women is partially women's fault.

>> No.902396

Maybe because women tend to choose jobs based on their benefits and prioritize their own personal happiness over their work (ie, there are so many female teaches because of the hours and 4 months of the year off)...

where as men tend to prioritize money over their own happiness... so they pick jobs where they work 80hour weeks so they can scrape their way to the top of the pile as fast as possible then try to buy happiness with their wealth?

/shrug that'd be my best guess... going by some limited reading and a few classes on gender in society.
