There's nothing like reading Moby Dick. No symbolism or complicated metaphors, it's just the simple story of a man that hates an animal.

Melville was not the kind of person to bother with a hidden message.
It was originally to be an purely educational but his publisher at the time didn't think a book on cetology would sell, so he mixed some hunting and killing to make it sexy and get his publisher to fund it.
