ITT: Books that you were excited for but ended up being letdowns

>> No.8479817

It's an interesting satire and hardly ever hyped more than that. What did you dislike about it?

How was this book a let down? I thought it was pretty good. As for let downs.

it was a nice enough read as both of you said. the start of it got me really excited and the ending was a bit dissapointing. the ideea was great and the dialog was entertaining but the end could have been better.

same dude.

to add on this:

i guess i was expecting more of a comparisson between the life of a stray dog and that of a wealthy russian.

i really enjoyed the way the dog described his life and his experiences at the begining of the book and inwas hoping the book would keep this up through and after the transformation.

infinite jest
the recognitions
bloodmeridian
Solaris
the sound and the fury
the easter day parade
what we talk about when we talk about love
dubliners

mason and Dixon and J R have lived up the the hype. J R was actually better than the hype. fuck I loved that book.

What didn't you like about Against Nature ?

Yeah I can see how the ending could be seen as a little weak. It's a decent resolution but not particularly insightful or interesting.

It's supposed to be a satire of the New Soviet Man.

The description of his new house and how he decorated it was way too long winded for me. Got sick of it after a while.

>> No.8481096

2666 unfortunately. i still enjoyed it - i remember my favourite part was just a whole page and a half of just some guy telling sexist jokes. but it wasn't worth the hours and hours i put into it, and i was disappointed with the ending

my favorite is when J R first really starts wheeling and dealing in the phone booth at school. when he's telling bast how he doesn't give a fuck about those workers at that old factory and just let the bank deal with it. or any scene where Gibbs is drunk as fuck. also any scene with J R. every time he said "holy" I cracked up.

my favorite from the recognitions is when wyatt goes home and no one knows who the fuck he is or when everyone is eating the bread close to the end. the bread was killing me. or how esme got sick at the end lol.

I just thought the sound and the fury would be harder. I got the impression from everyone it's sooooo hard
but then the hard parts are in italics and that just gives it away.

for bloodmeridian I was expecting more violence lol.
