it's like how usually you can impress people by namedropping famous writers, philosophers, etc. you can impress them even more if you actually have a substantial understanding of their work. the latter is something i'm pretty proud of, and i share what i know when it seems relevant.

well, what i learned was that none of this matters in the slightest if the person you're talking to has zero recognition of any of the names you're talking about. you might as well be talking about a fantasy novel or something, because it sounds like gibberish to them. on top of that they think you're childish and delusional for caring so much about irrelevant minutia. on top of that you start to believe it and focus more on facebook-tier discussion.

As a UCLA alumni, lemme just say: you went to the wrong school for that. UCLA is full of some of the the most blandly conventional people you'll ever find - they don't read because they mostly don't actually care about anything beyond becoming the competent cog they intend to become. I know I'm generalizing but I promise you it's astonishingly accurate even tho there are like 30,000 students (turns out that if you take a highly filtered sample of the general public you get a consistent population - what a surprise).

Just give up on UCLA and look for people in LA.

>I doubt this is the reason, a more convincing theory to me is that historically it was simply easier to survive as a terribly stupid male than a terribly stupid female.

1, we don't live in history anymore, so unless this study was only done on people 50+ that's irrelevant. Unless you're saying IQ is somehow inheritable for children of the same gender (Dad IQ 50, Mom IQ 75 = boy IQ 55, girl IQ 70), which doesn't actually disprove that chart rather than explain it.
2, How so? Before the modernist and post-modernist eras of comfort and individuality women had totally different positions in society and those positions often didn't involve much intellect, risk or danger. It's unfortunate that most of history wasn't as cushy as our modern lives but 100+ years ago, for most of society, reproducing was of critical importance and that was the job most women were given and reproducing doesn't require much intelligence and the risk involved has nothing to do with intelligence but rather medical history/genetics/age/etc.

Obviously the original guy was a dick.

Whether a male reproducing is more difficult or a female reproducing is more difficult has nothing to do with the post I was addressing which is talking about survival rates and, apparently, some sort of heritable but gender-based IQ.

Both. It's about "love". Lamenting the death of love in realisation of its true impossibility.

Platonic love is just as rich and satisfying as romantic love. It has way less problems, too, because it's based on mutual respect and affinity completely - not passion, which is ephemeral and volatile in nature - and it's so much less restrictive. "Love" just evolves into friendship with sex after about five years.

Agreed, senpai.

Yet even with the closest friend you will still be alone. There will always be an insurmountable discontinuity between the borders of your consciousness and the minds of others. You can of course do various things to make it seem like this barrier is smaller or fuzzier,Hell, you may even momentarily convince yourself that it doesn't exist if you do a powerful enough psychedelic with another person

Maybe when we die our soul, a tower of low and lonely entropy, collapses back into the substrate onto which was formed and we will know true love and belonging ;^)

I think I'm more a certain mental process. I don't know exactly where I am in myself but I think I know I am not my totality. I get messages from other parts of myself and I can communicate back in a way but I don't experience the whole thing. Even inside myself I am isolated and cut off by discontinuity. It's like poetry ^;)

No I meant X-linked. XLMR affects mostly males compared to females and it accounts for around 20% of male retardation.

Her writing is fine, its just association kills her.

Feminists have claimed her just like they try to claim V-woolf.

Both women had a streak of defiance in them, but neither--anywhere in their work--attempts to explain the world in terms of sex or relationships between the sexes.

Even in a room of ones own V-woolf is making an argument about self actualization and its a solid argument, it just happens to pertain to girls who end up usually not having their own room.

Plath is probably the last modern poet who captures the truly gone sense of flirting with death at the end.

I do exactly this - express the writer's work in an easier to understand way. That way, both of you can chime in on the conversation and it doesn't just come off as pretentious, "that guy" speak.
