Without going into a long explanation on why this is, most real writers are smart: they have become conscious of the futility of most, if not all, things. Thusly, they live without purpose and revert to the natural man's natural state: despair.

I wonder if this is true. There are just too many reasons it might just appear this way.

For example, you gain much more insight into a writer's mind than into the Joe Briefcase's, given that a writer literally makes his trade by opening up his mind and feelings through his books.

Because people are fucking morons who don't understand that once they reach a certain point, nothing they say makes sense to others without first being translated into a simple, plain language.

There's a reason you're supposed to speak as if your audience is in the 8th grade, and if you're too stupid to realize how to communicate with the majority of people then you're not as smart as you first thought. There's a reason why Hemmingway is considered a genius and Moby Dick is hated, and it's because people are impatient, egotistical retards in large part.

Because forgetting yourself and 'going with the flow' and doing stuff without too much analysing tends to keep people up and running. Writers do the exact opposite, they sit down in hyper-awareness of themselves and the world and reflect on it.

>What is a poet? An unhappy man who hides deep anguish in his heart, but whose lips are so formed that when the sigh and cry pass through them, it sounds like lovely music.... And people flock around the poet and say: 'Sing again soon' - that is, 'May new sufferings torment your soul but your lips be fashioned as before, for the cry would only frighten us, but the music, that is blissful.

In this world, happiness comes from a social support system (having friends and being a socially healthy person).

You will notice that most depressed people or most shut ins do not have this social support system. They never learned social skills in their early childhood and thus never made many friends or deep connections.

Learning how to make friends and socialize is critical in your formative years. In reality, most people are just lonely, its not some chemical inbalance that causes sadness its being isolated.

Artist usually cannot relate to the common person. So whether they are social or not doesnt matter. It is hard for them to form the deep connections with others that normal people do easily.

They feel lonely and the inability to socialize in a meaningful way causes depression.
