I don't know what you're reading, but maybe it's something that you just find naturally boring. I find myself able to focus without difficulty when I am interested in the book I'm reading, whereas an assigned text could take me twice as long to read as a pleasurable text of similar length.

Regardless of whether or not you'd like to think of ADHD as a serious mental condition, or just a condition where someone doesn't work hard enough, what matters is that there is a chemical compound that my brain reacts to differently than other people's, and instead of making me hyper and jittery it helps me concentrate.

I'm going to take full advantage of that compound. Not doing so would be stubbornness, not discipline.

Naw, discipline is it.

I let my mind wander. Inspiration for stories, dinner parties I throw, people I'll meet, other lives lived.
But if you have to study or just really need to finish a book to return it to the library or something; discipline.

Being able to focus without medication means you can do it anywhere at any time. If you need medication to do it you will be dependent on it and therefore less free.

That's not to say that medication isn't necessary in some instances but it should be the last resort.

Read short 20 minute bursts throughout the day. You don't have to sit still and read non stop. Besides, that is what chapters are for: to allow you to find a good place to stop.

You're in no way different. You're just someone with less capacity for concentration than others and you need to take shit like Methylphenidate or amphetamine salts to be able to study or read.

I don't need them in any way, and I often use these drugs to party, but I also use them to read for extended periods of time, sometimes.

It's literally just a pure version of the amphetamines you'd buy from that sketchy guy before going out, in the case of adderall. If you actually need it, you're just a weak person without enough will to acquire capacities. ADHD is not a serious condition, it is a weakness and a laziness inherent to overexposition to stimuli, it never existed before the medication for it were invented. You're literally being sold amphetamines by companies, feed this to children (I have a friend whom, at 6, popped two concertas (slow ritalin) every morning).

If you'd ever felt the hangover from taking a similar ammount of ritalin in a single party, you would never even consider the possibility of giving this to your child. If you'd ever been on ritalin for an extended period of time (same ammounts as that given to a child), and had known the shaking, the teeth grinding, the nauseating hunger and the disgust for food, with the general weakness, you'd never fucking consider giving this to a child.

Children just get used to it, the same way an amphetamine addict does, but they do get fucked up.

Schools are literally filled with kids straight-out rolling face all day long.

have you read the scientific literature? ADHD impairs your problem solving, executive function of the brain. I'm not saying drugs are the only solution to the problem. Many friends I know tells me running/walking long distances helps just as much. I've read the ADHD is an evolutionary advantage were the person has spends extra amount of time being adventerous /risk taking etc. Of course the drug companies take advantage of the condition and try to sell as many pills as they can. In psychiatry the pills only lower your SYMPTOMS not cure the problem. Same with depression meds they won't rewire your brain they help you aid in properly functioning human beings. Maybe the current drugs aren't the best solution for the condition but the symptoms are real and has been scientifically proven and observed via brain scans.

Nigga it ain't a disease, it's just people with less concentration. People aren't all equal, some people have less concentration, that's all.

They just need to develop work strategies and stuff like that, not spend their days rolling face on "mixed amphetamine salts for slow release".

I didn't say it was. It's an inherited chemical imbalance in the brain.
>>6598788
>have less concentration
If you think ADHD is just about less concentration you don't know ADHD. It is impairment of your executive function and problem. People affected ADHD have many problems along with lack of concentration i.e. getting things done in time, impulsive actions, inability to deal with emotional and solve day-to-day problems properly,

Thinking ADHD is a disorder is basically saying there is a "normal" individual and anyone different from this norm needs to be cured. Of course there are more things to it than just a lack of concentration, but it is not 'a thing' --- it is just a brain with different properties.

>> No.6598868

>>6598858
>it is just a brain with different properties.
Well if these properties posed no harm to the individual and their well being there wouldn't be a psychiatric diagnosis.

How were they not diagnosed before the 60s if it was sooo bad for their daily lives?

This shit was literally invented when post-industrial capitalism needed people to systematically focus on producing and consuming and anyone not able had to be force-fed as many pills as possible.

This whole ADHD thing never existed before we invented some arbitrary requirements for people to follow; this goes with the whole leveling and the general sanitization of society.

I'm guessing because science was in it's infant stage at that time and we didn't know much about it. There are still problems with ADHD I think that are still haven't found by science.
>This shit was literally invented when post-industrial capitalism needed people to systematically focus on producing and consuming and anyone not able had to be force-fed as many pills as possible.
Big pharma may have a role in that. I do think the condition is overdiagnosed. The people with condition know what's wrong. Their life is in shambles as it gets worse from childhood to adulthood. Also the stimulants like Ritalin, Adderall do not 'cure' the illness. They lower the symptoms. It has many many side effects lack of sleep, less hunger, withdrawal etc. They are not selling this as a complete cure for an illness like Tylenol for a fever. The stimulants seem to help them function normally. If there is a better drug they'll sell that. If there is any corruption or conspiracy going on it is from the Pharmaceuticals that want to push a certain drug or formula to make profit while not researching the actual cause of the disorder or disqualifying better alternative therapies via meddling with FDA.
