Holy shit. I'm gonna write a trash YA book under a pseudonym and have the main characters' favorite novel be the one I published using my real name and rake in the dough.

I don't think so. Just like physical music albums, people just have to get creative. Of course nobody will buy something cheap and ugly when they can virtually download it; but if it's visually attractive, then it'll serve for collecting purposes. When I really like an eBook I've read, I usually buy a good-looking physical copy, for example.

I don't get this mentality. A shoutout from some teenybopper YA novel would be fucking sick for a literary writer, there're mouths to feed. It does feel a little dirty but if I ever get published I'd definitely try to start a conspiracy wherein popular YA authors reference my book. In return, I'd give them blurbs so they can feel like the literary establishment appreciates them.

Pic related. It's weird because the 50th anniversary edition has by far the most gorgeous typography I've ever seen, and its cover is wonderful. All other covers suck. Honorable mention to all B&N Classics covers.

titles are quite commonly changed during localization, it's common for any language, either for marketing reasons or because they use some allusion unknown for speakers of another language etc

for instance when they translated pelevin's 'chapaev and void' to english (and german) it went as 'buddha's little finger' or 'clay machine gun', probably because english speakers mostly have no idea who chapaev is and how he is connected with pet'ka, petr pustota (whose last name literally means void)
