Explain to me why Ray Bradbury was a hack.

>> No.5334938

He had one book that people politicized to use against McCarthyism, and it somehow ended up elevating him to the heights of greats like Orwell, which he sincerely didn't deserve.

In his 50 years as a writer he wrote literally nothing else of merit.

I agree that Imperialunitsareinferior 451 was overrated as fuck, but come on, he's arguably most prolific from his short stories. I'd argue that he at least stands beside Poe as an American short story master.

451 was magic
something wicked this way comes was tripe

The short story There Will Come Soft Rains was brilliant

and

that one short story about the man walking on the street at night who gets arrested by robot police or something

that was also good

he is a great short story-ist. he is considered a hack for repeating motifs and similar types of characters and plots and things. In my opinion, every author does that kind of thing, it's just that Bradbury was so prolific his idiosyncrasies are more evident and common

basically what this anon said >>5334945

pick up any of his collections, you can't go wrong

are they "great"? many of them are not. some are. the fact is that he had an immensely fertile imagination.

I like to think of him as the nice version of Harlan Ellison, or rather, Ellison is the sinister, keen, and complete asshole version of Bradbury

That short story's called "The Pedestrian." I liked it a lot, too.
