This series is going to end horribly for Adolin, isn't it?

Worth a read, it's the best thing Sanderson has written. Expands the shit out of the world and all the characters that annoyed you become likeable. Still, there's a new character called Lift that pissed me off.

Hopefully Lift will mature in the second half of Stormlight (which will likely be a 5 or 10 year time skip), that awesome shit was jarring. Despite that I still enjoyed her chapter and hope we get to see some more theivery, while she berates her spren.

>>5109877
What makes you think Adolin will even be king?
Dalinar will lead the KR as bondsmith and I don't see him going anywhere. Adolin will get in some deep shit for killing Sadeas (it was justified) for the way he went about it. He may get exiled from Urithuru, then on his adventures, hopefully reawaken the spren in his blade.

>> No.5112757

>>5112743

I'd like that (regarding Lift). Spook's development in Mistborn was great, and something similar would be welcoming.
Not the guy who said that, but Adolin is first in line (Dalinar wouldn't take the crown) and it would be great to see him ruling wisely as being his redemption for killing Sadeas. Also, I'm hoping that not every PoV ends up as a KR.

I see, there are still a lot of road blocks to him becoming king, but it could happen down the line. Right now half the world is in chaos thanks to Tarav and the Everstorm hasn't even hit yet, kings will be useless if they can't protect the people when the parshmen turn.

What I want to see is Elhokar stepping up and learning to be a better king, I gained some fondness for him at the end of WOR.

>I'm hoping that not every PoV ends up as a KR.
I kind of agree, the Kholins already have too many. Howevere, there are ten surges and I want to get an in depth look at them all, but does that mean each order needs a POV? I say yes, but will concede that some of those can be put in as interlude charactets.

>> No.5112877

He's mentioned that each book will focus on a different surge, so theories are that each focus character (like Kaladin in WoK, Shallan in WoR and Szeth in SU) will be a member of a different order. I don't really know though, because apparently Eshonai is the focus of book 4, and I didn't think Parshmen could be KR. Also, one or two will focus on Heralds, so I'm just going with it.

Don't worry, there's plenty of those too ;)
My point is just that, yes, there are bad people, and bad people do plenty of bad things, but that people should still try to be good. Because, as I said previously, we aren't chimpanzees.
Some people need to be put down, sure. But we should feel pity for the people who do bad things. For every person who gets the death penalty we should feel bad that as a society we failed that potential good person. Hate is easy. Wanting to kill someone is easy. Be a better person.

That kind of thinking didn't make the world. If it were up to people like you, we'd all still be naked savages sitting in a meadow somewhere eating nuts we picked up off the ground.

Our entire world was built on hatred and fighting. Trying to deny that part of humanity, that fundamental part, is a disservice to our species.

I keep thinking how much happier I would be doing that... I honestly would.
Books would be replaced by the village elders telling stories around a campfire, your day would be spent hunting for food. You'd have some arranged marriage with someone from another tribe to prevent inbreeding.
I would love to live like that. I was born 50,000 late.

>Fantasy tends to focus on war because of Tolkien though.

I hate fags like you that say every single fantasy we have is based on Tolkien.

>Tolkien invented war, that is why all fantasy writers use it

I think Black Company did shades of grey well, and as I'm reading, the Malazan series is doing the same.

The Thrill IS from Odium so technically, in-world, it can be considered 'bad'.

Kaladin canonically has depression but I fully agree with you.

Kaladin just pissed me off. That annoying self righteous bastard.
His pride to accept the shardblades did so much harm to everybody around him.

Did you actually read the book or did someone explain it to you?
Sly told him not to use a shardblade, and he made a promise to her that he wouldn't when he broke the promise and DID use it, she went full retard(lost herself). Remember Kaladin has to live and die by his oaths.

Also Syl can turn into any weapon he wants, just like pattern and shal

You what now?

I'm a sucker for a bit of cheese in my fantasy.
The part near the end, with Kaladin all fucked up and the Stormfather pulling out the "a daughter disobeys" line to Dalinar made my hair stand on end a little.
If you'd read any of Sanderson's other work you'd know immediately that some outrageously flamboyant magicking is about to happen. Shame the characters are mostly hollow copies of eachother.

It's not as dark as BotNS, for some reason I feel like telling you to read the Black Company Chronicles
