I've found that the only people who can engage in honest discourse about this book are those who actually have a passion for philosophy, those who approach the work because they truly want to know what Hegel has to say regarding the issues he raises. Everyone who writes it off as obscurantist trash/evil satanic german autism magic/a footnote to marx/etc doesn't really give a fuck about philosophy in itself and views having actually read the Phenomenology the same way one might view a finisher's medal for a particularly lengthy footrace.
