Find inspiration. Either (1) read math history/biography books, or (2) read recreational/pop-sci math books, or (3) pure curiosity from yourself.
I took the 1st option. Unironically starter from the Greek then move your way along the historical timeline—it's fine if you don't understand most of them, the point is to make you curious about the nature of math itself.
If you are at the point of interesting in math enough—time when you don't have to force yourself to learn or read about math—read the first two books of >>23104274
Note: if you want to pick a fun branch of math, pick number theory. Elementary number theory is pissed easy to understand, more fun to fuck around with, and you don't need much math knowledge to go far. "An introduction to the theory of number" by Hardy and Wright is a recommended reading.

for me a love grew out of trying difficult problems, really engaging with the problem-solving process, and failing. Then why I would look up the solutions or go to a forum to ask for guidance, it became very pleasurable to follow the logic and arguments that others put forward. So you could say my love of mathematics grew out of appreciation for the difficulty of the subject and admiration for the clever people who could make progress where I couldnt

>Ivan Turgenev - Fathers and Sons
>Virginia Woolf - Mrs Dalloway (the stream-of-consciousness might be hard to get into if you haven't read much literature before, but it's pretty short)

A few weeks back, an anon created a list of horror books. It was an exhaustive one. Like hundreds of names. Does someone have it? And I'm pushing my luck here but recently there was this thread asking for books that don't make it on those /lit/ books of the year. Did anything come out of that? Thank you!

Meditations gets into deeper philosophy at times, talking about the "logos" and how we should think of it. This is a fairly small part of the book though, and I enjoyed it just thinking something like "universal order" whenever the logos came up. If you're religious, I think thinking of it as God in a broad sense would be good.
Other than that, it's pretty approachable as long as you keep an open mind to other ways of life (it's 1800 years old, after all). It frequently puts the well-being of the community above the prospering of the individual, which can be easy to disagree with, but at the same time it's refreshing to read something from such a different perspective.
It's a work of aphoristic literature divided into about 600 (I think? that may be off) short sections, which range in length from one sentence to one page. For the most part they stand on their own, so don't be afraid to just read a few sections at a time. Give them some thought and come back if you want to keep reading, don't feel like you have to read half the book in one go. You'd actually get far less out of it if you did that.
Oh, and the first chapter is basically a gratitude journal where he thanks the people close to him. Feel free to start with chapter two if you don't want to learn the guy's family tree. The tl;dr is that Marcus Aurelius's father died when he was three, and the emperor of Rome, Antoninus Pius, adopted him. When he died, Marcus became co-emperor with his jock brother, Lucius Verus. He also died a few years later, leaving Marcus as sole emperor. Also note that he had a huge number of children die early. He had at least 14 children, four or five of which survived him. This is why he was so set on making his idiot son Commodus heir to the throne, and why Marcus is known as the last of the "Five Good Emperors". Hence also the obsession with detachment and controlling one's emotions when terrible calamities occur.

That ended up longer than I thought it would be, but it's really already more background than you need! The book is surprisingly relatable and modern-sounding at times (of course, depending on the translation), I hope you give it a shot :)

probably looking up a reputable institutions mathematics course would be a lot more beginner friendly than the chart in the op. They also tend not to cover whole textbooks but only parts of them.

Cambridge has books for their courses, which you can have a look here: https://www.maths.cam.ac.uk/undergrad/admissions/why-study-here/first-year-part-ia

also word of advice, study the subjects which are interesting to you, and other subjects only when necessary (you will know when they're necessary).

you can usually find the motivation of subjects in the preface of books, so I would recommend looking at university courses first year modules and having a read through the prefaces of each book. Prefaces tend to be easy to read and not technical, especially at the beginning level.

I see that the list is absolutely massive, and I appreciate the effort, but what does it represent? Does it try to be a complete list, does it want to be a list of worthwhile horror? It feels like to me it's neither. There's no explanation for why some works are included and some aren't, and some are included more than once in different ways (for example: Sheridan Le Fanu's Carmilla, and In a Glass Darkly, which also includes Carmilla; and Algernon Blackwood's John Silence Stories which are there twice; Clive Barker's Books of Blood are there, and The Midnight Meat Train as well, which is a part of Books of Blood. And also, Arthur Machen only has The Great God Pan on the list, which is also puzzling).
Without any decent explanation, this list really isn't that useful for anything.
