Obligatory ryu murakami's in the miso soup. Less and more subtle with their violence tha American Psycho. I know I have more recs but I gotta find the titles again.

Les Chants de Maldoror is pretty violent, most notably that part where Maldoror's dag rapes and eviscerates a little girl, then play with her corpse, only for Maldoror to shoot the dog in the head

The Painted Bird by Kosinski.

That book is try-hard right down to the cover design.

Probably The Sailor Who Fell from Grace with the Sea. The killing of the cat and then the sailor, which is just implied. Seems like I haven't read very many violent books

Not into violent books, so probably Lord of the Flies when I read it for school. I can't remember the specific passages, just that it made me feel really sick.

Kind of a cliche answer I know but probably Blood Meridian.

The sisters brothers. Kinda gritty and subtle hints that one of the brothers rapes women. Lotsa killing too ofcourse.

I feel like this should need no introduction but it's like when you want to recommend a book to someone, except you remember THAT part, every chapter is that part for 3 books.

Yeah, it was pretty try-hard (e.g. "fuck this girl whose ear I just cut off and stuck in her pussy" ). It was also dumb how Frank suddenly has supernatural powers and hypnotizes them. Murakami built up the seedy atmosphere of the place fairly well but failed to colour in the characters enough for what happened to have real impact (I'm not a fan of Stephen King but his story "Herman Wouk Is Still Alive" is a good example of how to do this more effectively). That's why it felt cheap and try-hard. Maybe the sexual nature of the violence made it land hard for you but to me it just felt like it was trying to be shocking for the sake of being shocking. The MC was a pretty rounded character when it came to his reactions to things going on around him but I would have liked some info on his backstory concerning what lead him into escorting sex tourists around the red light district.
