>9 volumes of prose works
>2 volume autobiography
>10 dramatic poems with accompanying musical scores of unparalleled length and size
>brown book
>35 volumes of letters

Supplement that with Cosima's diaries, Glassenapp's biography, Porges' record of the Bayreuth Festival rehearsals, and who knows how many other acquaintances Wagner set on to record his own life, and you have the most complete picture of any artist in history.

Built different. Also you have to account for the fact that it's basically all he did, outside of personal conversations he might have had with the people around him (and much of that was written down by someone anyway). It's what you get when a truly brilliant artist (the greatest of all?) dedicate's his entire being to his art, and the volume of his work is just a demonstration of that brilliance.

Being a noted antisemite (even for his day) and Hitler's favourite composer doesn't help, especially when the entirety of post-war academia was taken over by Jews. It's a real shame since it's really a very minor part of his writings, unless you believe the "muh greedy dwarves who love money and can't get love are an antisemitic stereotype!" bullshit like Adorno did.

Pic is the works of Martin Luther.
>The editorial work on the WA began in 1883, on Luther's 400th birthday. The work was completed in 2009 in 127 volumes in quarto format with approximately 80,000 pages.

Think about all the time you dedicate to a computer or phone screen. Now imagine that those don’t exist and the best distractions you’ve got are either books or your own writing.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Weimar_edition_of_Martin_Luther's_works
>The Weimar edition of Luther's works, also known as the Weimarer Ausgabe (WA), is a critical complete edition of all writings of Martin Luther and his verbal statements, in Latin and German.
>The WA is divided into four series:
>Abt. 1 Schriften / Werke (writings / works), 72 volumes, including 8 in two parts (abbreviation: WA)
>Abt. 2 Tischreden (table talk), 6 volumes (abbreviation: WA TR)
>Abt. 3 Die deutsche Bibel (The German Bible), 15 volumes (abbreviation: WA DB)
>Abt. 4 Briefe/Briefwechsel (correspondence), 18 volumes (abbreviation: WA BR)

>> No.22734768

>>22734756
Since it's a critical edition, doesn't that mean the largest part of these writings is just commentary? The German Bible alone is 15 volumes.

A critical edition will have an apparatus containing textual differences and such things. The top part of the pic is a random page from his writings. The bottom part is a random page from his Bible translation. His Bible translation had numerous editions and revisions which would account for the amount of volumes. You can look at the volumes yourself here:

Here's a list anon made for me a while back, I've found it's been pretty useful. Or you can just go chronologically, that works too.
