/lit/ will deny themseves the pleasure of reading this because you think you’re too sophisticated for fables and short stories. This is a beautiful work that is done in the vain of Scheherazade’s tales and also serves as literary criticism of the former stories within the characters’ mouths as the mc is a narratologist who lectures in the Arabian Nights while appearing themselves within an Arabian Nights-esque story.

AS Byatt just died and this is a decent book for which she is remembered. There should be more people willing to write Arabian Nights and Canterbury-esque short stories instead of massive Tl;Dr novels no one wants to bother with.
