The point of philosophy is to be sought in its very uncertainty. The man who has no tincture of philosophy goes through life imprisoned in the prejudices derived from common sense, from the habitual beliefs of his age or his nation, and from convictions which have grown up in his mind without the co-operation or consent of his deliberate reason. To such a man the world tends to become definite, finite, obvious; common objects arouse no questions, and unfamiliar possibilities are contemptuously rejected. As soon as we begin to philosophize, however, we find that even the most everyday things lead to problems to which only incomplete answers can be given. Philosophy, though unable to tell us with certainty which is the true answer to the doubts that it raises, is able to suggest many possibilities, which enlarge our thoughts and free them from the tyranny of custom. Thus, while diminishing our feeling of certainty as to what things are, it greatly increases our knowledge as to what they may be; it removes the somewhat arrogant dogmatism of those who have never traveled into the region of liberating doubt, and it keeps alive our sense of wonder by showing familiar things in an unfamiliar aspect.

After reading pessimist philosophy I gave up my communist beliefs, my religious beliefs, expectations for a happy life etc.

Pessimistic philosophy woke me up from sleep. And told me to stop gaslighting my self in believing this live, love, laugh shit. It saved me from arranged marriage(which implies wage slavery for whole life and most outrageous baggage and transference of guilt) and whole life of more and more family nonsense. It showed me the futility of human toil and limits of understanding.

There you go. Philosophy was very "useful" for me.

i really hate how people just dismiss the importance of philosophy

There is a science whose subject matter is a category of ideas. Today, in our colleges, this science has sunk to the lowest point in its history. Its teachers have declared that it has no questions to ask, no method to follow, no answers to offer. As a result, it is disappearing —losing its identity, its intelligibility, its students, and the last vestiges of its once noble reputation. No one —among the intellectuals or the general public— would suspect any longer that this science could be relevant to human life or action. Yet this science determines the destiny of nations and the course of history. It is the source of a nation’s frame of reference and code of values, the root of a people’s character and culture, the fundamental cause shaping men’s choices and decisions in every crucial area of their lives. It is the science which directs men to embrace this world or to seek out some other that is said to transcend it —which directs them to reason or superstition, to the pursuit of happiness or of self-sacrifice, to production or starvation, to freedom or slavery, to life or death. It is the science which made the difference between the East and the West, between the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, between the Founding Fathers of the new continent and the Adolf Hitlers of the old. It is the science which had to be destroyed, if the catastrophes of our time were to become possible.
The science is philosophy.

Why even respond at all? Even if you have an airtight defense, reality is not actually achieved by consensus and dialectics are bullshit. I don't care if plebs with minds unknowable to me find my mind unknowable to themselves.
Elitism is an insulation against the schizophrenia of democratic society.

That autistic nerd shit doesn't work on women. You have a good basic idea about shaming language together with "hoping she comes around" but you're being way too polite about it. She'll just mentally write you off as a nerd loser and never again consider what you actually said. You have to be much simpler and a bit more insulting in the tone to get the message across (sticking in her head, forcing her to rethink it).

The force of the better argument doesn't work with these people. You have to frame things rhetorically in the right way that sticks in their craw.
