Why is America the only country in the Anglosphere outside of the British isles that has a worthwhile literary tradition?

>> No.22567464

There was a unique identity and mythos attatched to being American that was not present in Canada or New Zealand. Not sure about Australia

Tiny population
Nigeria is not in the "anglosphere" but arguably has a worthwhile anglophone literary tradition

Fpbp. That's also why Russian literature is so great, a unique identity and mythos compared to Europe while still bearing the mark of Pater Europa.

Australia had a lot of excellent poetry in the late 19th century and then a lot of great non-fiction and some fiction in the middle of the 20th. Not much outside of that it is still too much of a young country. Though fellow ausfags will know that young bit is contentious at the minute lmao

Pound for pound, the British Carribean actually has the best literary tradition of any former colony. As many Nobel prize winners as Aus, NZ and Canada put together
