>Send Italo Calvino to hell and he might report back with this
>What’s it like to live in a country outcast from the rest of the world by its war-crazed leader? In Gorbunova’s fiction, otherworldly forces, dark phantasmagoria, and the horrors of underground life cross with mythical fairytales to paint a disquieting portrait of contemporary Russia. Send Italo Calvino to hell and he might report back with this.
Which women are you reading in translation this month?

I don't read woman books or woman translations.
Earlier this year I made an exception with Haunting of Hill House and it was surprisingly good, like on par with upper middle class quality male horror, but then I also read Pride & Prejudice. Had enough of cunt-brained gossip "books" for a few years.

I quite liked picrel. Taiwanese lesbians in the 90s. Autobiographical "novel." The writer killed herself shortly after, I believe. She was in her mid-20s. Terrible. I think world literature lost a promising, brilliant writer. The book has clear flaws but its energy/verve/intensity scintillates
