About crippling, unrequited love

There they are
Hair black in strands
Firm unmoving hands
There they are and
They’re not moving
Make them move
Forward or away

In the shadows of my heart, love resides,
A flame that burns, though not reciprocates.
In dreams, your image gently coincides,
Yet distant, you remain; my heart awaits.

A single smile, a fleeting touch, I crave,
But you, a distant star in skies above,
In unrequited love, my soul's enslaved,
A prisoner to this unending love.

My heart's a canvas painted with your name,
Each brushstroke whispers tales of fervent care.
Yet you're a tempest, wild and unconstrained,
While I'm a shipwreck, lost in your despair.

Though tears may fall like rain upon my face,
I'll cherish the sweet moments that we've known,
For even in this unrequited space,
My love for you will stand, forever grown.

So let me keep this secret love enshrined,
A silent beacon, in the dark confined.

Ernest Dowson, De Amore

Shall one be sorrowful because of love,
Which hath no earthly crown,
Which lives and dies, unknown?
Because no words of his shall ever move
Her maiden heart to own
Him lord and destined master of her own:
Is Love so weak a thing as this,
Who can not lie awake,
Solely for his own sake.
For lack of the dear hands to hold, the lips to kiss,
A mere heart-ache?

Nay, though love's victories be great and sweet,
Nor vain and foolish toys,
His crowned, earthly joys.
Is there no comfort then in love's defeat?
Because he shall defer.
For some short span of years all part in her,
Submitting to forego
The certain peace which happier lovers know;
Because he shall be utterly disowned,
Nor length of service bring
Her least awakening:
Foiled, frustrate and alone, misunderstood discrowned,
Is Love less King?

Grows not the world to him a fairer place,
How far soever his days
Pass from his lady's ways,
From mere encounter with her golden face?
Though all his sighing be vain,
Shall he be heavy-hearted and complain?
Is she not still a star,
Deeply to be desired, worshipped afar,
A beacon-light to aid
From bitter-sweet delights, Love's masquerade?
Though he lose many things,
Though much he miss:
The heart upon his heart, the hand that clings,
The memorable first kiss;
Love that is love at all,
Needs not an earthly coronal;
Love is himself his own exceeding great reward,
A mighty lord!

Lord over life and all the ways of breath,
Mighty and strong to save
From the devouring grave;
Yea, whose dominion doth out-tyrant death,
Thou who art life and death in one,
The night, the sun;
Who art, when all things seem:
Foiled, frustrate and forlorn, rejected of to-day
Go with me all my way,
And let me not blaspheme.

Once upon a timeless time,
nowhere, when the only gift
lay at the foot of the nuptial bed,
you peeled my skin with just a grin.

Kill me now or kill me never,
I said without speaking a word.
Kill me softly with abandoned grace,
even if your afterimage permeates nullified
space.

Can the trumpets sound against a blank background?
And will regrets like the marigolds grow?
"No" singes my meat-blended mind, and I

say little to the indelible effect
as its sewn by the temptress's fate
(you know the one).

Never would I have guessed this game would end
in the form of a poorly formulated Jeopardy question;
"good god!" I'll on my knees contend,
gathering wool from a picnic day parade
ever collecting at the far end of the pool.
Really, I must insist I am the primordial fool.

CATHAY
Framed in white porcelain
layers of eddying water
The glossy richness of silk gowns
Topaz eyes in tawny brows
Dust kicked in the air from rickshaw men with black hair
Bamboo columns crowding high clouds
Jade fans waver in pale hands

Painting the orient
Blue, and brown, and emerald
Feeding sinophiles
A better world then this one

What is there to say of heart break?
Such a great cause of enmity
The rift between you and I
Brings grief that knows no remedy

What Is there to say of heart break?
A wound so hard to heal
Now when I think of my dear love
Pain is all I feel

What is there to say of heart break?
A Pain not like any other
Even though you cause this sadness
I could never love another

I remember you from a earlier thread. I like this poem.it's very short, but utilizes it's metaphor and rhyme scheme really well. I've been reading Edgar Allan Poe's poems recently, and It's even more clear now how he influenced your style.

Not a poem, but lyrics to a song by Fiona Apple I’ve been listening to a lot recently:

You didn't see my valentine
I sent it via pantomime
While you were watchin' someone else
I stared at you and cut myself
It's all I'll do 'cause I'm not free
A fugitive too dull to flee
I'm amorous but out of reach
A still life drawing of a peach
I'm a tulip in a cup
I stand no chance of growing up
I've made my peace I'm dead, I'm done
I watched you live to have my fun
I root for you, I love you
You, you, you, you
I root for you, I love you
You, you, you, you
I made it to a dinner date
My teardrops seasoned every plate
I tried to dance but lost my nerve
I cramped up in the learning curve
I'm a tulip in a cup
I stand no chance of growing up
I'm resigned to sail on through
In the wake of tales of you
I root for you, I love you
You, you, you, you
I root for you, I love you
You, you, you

I like yours as well. Short but sweet. Poe has indeed been one of my principal teachers, and I'm glad an anon remembered a poem of mine. Have you posted in poetry threads before? I might remember you as well

This was the poem I had posted last time.

You’re voice is like a angel’s kiss
I may write through all my days
And still all your charms, could not list
In my heart your beauty stays
Your soul is my most precious gem
My world rests where your head lays
From your words my passion stem
Your mane is like a tranquil sea
And just your eyes can overwhelm
When with you my heart feels free
My love flows like the river Nile
I’ll lay my affection for all to see
What all I love of you cannot be complied
Awkward as it may appear
Just your smile makes life worthwhile.
In your fairness none may compare
You are God’s finest piece
I would not change a single hair
May my feelings for you only increase
No matter the troubles I may bear
You shall always bring me peace

We even had a short discussion, if my memory serves me correctly. That was when I learnt Edgar Allan Poe was your main inspiration

Now i am horny and i am high
It is after work and i AM TIRED
Going to go to bed soon
Gotta clean out my car first
Every day i drink too much beer
Reminds me of the time I ran over those deer.

I've fucked fifty cats and I say I am not proud
The scratching reel of blood portends their end
Is penetrated by my rod and reamed full bore
And so evacuated of the cat and its rectum both
The receedings of my crime discarded against a gutter
Or mid road to be runover and all sin extinguished beneath truck tyres
Yet they gaze at me with their eyes so coquettishly
And seeing them I anticipate the next screaming rape.
