Why isn't every author like this?

Walter Moers is similar. He has interviews but they're of a very silly nature and read like short stories as well.

So not similar at all?

>> No.21943512

Very similar since the interviews are fictional works. Also no photos since the 90s exist.

>Why isn't every author like this?
Because not every successful writer comes from old money. Most authors are forced by the publisher to do public shit in order to promote the book. It's part of the contract.

Shakespeare and Moers are the same person. He's a vampire and has been alive for a couple of hundred years. Pynchon is probably him as well.

Yea, he doesn't need the interviews but other writers do them because they have to (their publisher has set them up), not because of ego.

Pynchon being staunchly anti-publicity to the point of silliness is just another marketing strategy, and one that has paid off well. This bit of his has a strong appeal among a certain set and has helped build his legend more than anything he's written. Frankly, to any reading adult his stance/approach just makes him come across as a pampered baby, rather than a reclusive genius. I like the guy but c'mon.

Some writers don’t want fame or fortune and the media literally cannot handle it. They’re so used to being a main cog in the fame making machine that to be denied that role makes them feel powerless and insignificant, which makes them confused, angry, and ultimately resentful. Pynchon isn’t a recluse. He just doesn’t participate. It’s incredibly based.
