This man really tried to save us all. Nowadays everything is coated in sarcasm, irony and cynicism.

Maybe if he had treated the people in his life better he wouldn't have been all alone with his darkness and wouldn't have committed suicide

This is nonsense. He was probably smiling like Robin Williams

Everything has always been veiled by social politics, and all the theatrics that it demands. Nothing has changed.

Who are you to tell David to foster Wallace!? If David wants to foster Wallace it’ll be of his own volition!

I really have no interest in this guy and I never read his books or these threads, but here is the understanding I've picked up through reading snippets while scrolling. Maybe someone can tell me if I'm on the right track:
>Postmodernism led to a particular brand of Cynicism in art, which infected us all through the media we consume
>DFW is the figurehead of a movement now termed as 'new sincerity' which pushes against this cynicism and believes art can still be productive of good even in a postmodern context
>Somehow this is picked up by Tao Lin's 'Taipei', which I did not understand. I guess writing about one's own masturbatory habits is a form of sincerity, so OK.
>The phrase post-postmodernism is sometimes applied (?)

Forgot to add, shows like The Office, How I Met your Mother, and Rick and Morty are associated by some critics with this movement. I think. Makes sense that we would turn to TV to pull us out of the same existential hole it put us in in the first place.

That's such an apt comparison because robin williams and dfw are two people I hate with irrational passion

Maybe just get over it, or stop talking to spackers, I dunno?
Why is it the end of the world if some people can't be serious about things? Genuinely?
