>“He (Mohammed) seduced the people by promises of carnal pleasure to which the concupiscence of the flesh urges us. His teaching also contained precepts that were in conformity with his promises, and he gave free rein to carnal pleasure. In all this, as is not unexpected; he was obeyed by carnal men.

>As for proofs of the truth of his doctrine, he brought forward only such as could be grasped by the natural ability of anyone with a very modest wisdom. Indeed, the truths that he taught he mingled with many fables and with doctrines of the greatest falsity.

>He did not bring forth any signs produced in a supernatural way, which alone fittingly gives witness to divine inspiration; for a visible action that can be only divine reveals an invisibly inspired teacher of truth. On the Contrary, Mohammed said that he was sent in the power of his arms – which are signs not lacking even to robbers and tyrants.

>What is more, no wise men, men trained in things divine and human, believed in him from the beginning (1). Those who believed in him were brutal men and desert wanderers, utterly ignorant of all divine teaching, through whose numbers Mohammed forced others to become his follower’s by the violence of his arms.

>Nor do divine pronouncements on part of preceding prophets offer him any witness. On the contrary, he perverts almost all the testimony of the Old and the New Testaments by making them into a fabrication of his own, as can be seen by anyone who examines his law.

>It was, therefore, a shrewd decision on his part to forbid his followers to read the Old and New Testaments, lest these books convict him of falsity. It is thus clear that those who place faith in his words believe foolishly.

No god but God by Reza Aslan.
Good book that’s helps outline cultural context of the pre-Islamic Arabia, Muhammad’s life, struggles with succession following his death and some commentary on particular topics within Islam. From what I can gather, the books has a slight bias towards Shia Islam but it doesn’t colour it too much. As someone who knew fuck all about Islam as a movement outside of the Qur’an, it was a helpful stepping stone.

Nope. Everything he said is right. If Mohammed was sent by God he should've shown good moral fruit but evidently he was a liar, a murderer, pedophile, and a warmonger. And its also true that most of mohammed's followers were converted arab pagans who were violent to begin with. Its also true that Mohammed perverted the old and new testament texts. Tell me why I should believe that this guy's testimony is more accurate 500 years after Christ's death? Makes no sense.

>In the modern world, the traditional Sunni and Shia idea of saints has been challenged by puritanical and revivalist Islamic movements such as the Salafi movement, Wahhabism, and Islamic Modernism, all three of which have, to a greater or lesser degree, "formed a front against the veneration and theory of saints".[1]

That's sad, what are some texts defending Saint veneration.

Modernist Islam is like Calvinism, dry autism.

never a thing you retard. Any saint veneration was remnant shia influence. Sufis emerged in a time period when shia powers ruled the islamic world. Their ideas and practices are lifted from the shia. The Salafis are correct in this instance. Any Sunni who believes in saint veneration is compromised

>perverted the old and new testament texts.
could say the same thing with christians! through shoddy interpretation and theological cope, the christians have blasphemed against scripture by asserting that the Tanakh promotes ritual human sacrifice, theophagy and blood drinking which is wholly against the sacred law of Moses. inb4 abrogation of the law, Paul the Persecutor does not have the authority to dismiss the law and this is a theological matter, Christian theology completely opposes Jewish theology.

Thanks. My dad is Shia and then converted my Sunni mom. (He's a narcissist so he has "superpowers", that's beside the point.) But looking at the facts, even though both sides have points, I can't believe Sunni are the majority. Sunni are low IQ in Islamic matters compared to Shia. Shia use Sunni's own lauded books against them but it doesn't matter. I'm not even religious by the way.
