libraries are so based
>endless amount of materials you didn't know existed
>librarians friendly as fuck
>can sit down and read for hours on a comfy couch
only problem is that it's a homeless hideout

>> No.21674597

Used to go to this library on the regular, it is pretty big so you can easily evade the homeless stuff. And has a great rare books section with some niche stuff that is impossible to find elsewhere for less than like 100 bucks. Used to chill in there and read this dope ass Swiss author’s short stories. Thanks for the reminder, maybe I’ll hit it up this week and read a few stories.

Shit architecture desu. The uni library I go to has an old part that they built some cancerous growth onto, but the old part is basically just a massive reading room. Very high ceilings, ornamented, mandatory silence with white noise to drown out the typing of mongrels. I love reading there.

Librarian here, reminder that if you appreciate the service do try to make regular use of it- by keeping our registration and loan numbers up you’re ensuring that we will continue to receive funding and resources. The main reasons why public services get axed is because people simply don’t make the most of them

>>21676128
>be me, discharging books
>come across one with dried cum sticking the pages together
>check on the system who it was last issued to
>add a replacement charge onto your account
And it’s as easy as that. I once came across a Murakami book that someone had slipped some dried flowers between the pages, so that kind of thing makes up for it anyways.

libraries buy up a bunch of shitty woke books and crap like "milk and honey" by that gas station toilet whore, which artificially boosts the sales numbers on whatever abominable schlock the cabal wants to push. libraries are a destructive force to the world.

>nonono people can’t enjoy things I don’t enjoy
At least they’re reading. Given the declining literacy rates we should be try and be happy about that at least. I often think that if I ever become wealthy, like lottery wealthy, I’d start an adult literacy program. In that exceedingly unlikely set of circumstances, I wouldn’t care if they chose to start with schlock so long as it helps improve their general literacy (and maybe I could eventually steer them to something better).

This seems naive to me. People sell hard drugs because there are people out there who want to consume them. Do I like it? No, of course not, but to deny that a demand exists is akin to burying one’s head in the sand. Things are as they are, we just have to deal with as best we’re capable.

drugs give them a high. with books normies read and "like" whatever they're told to read and like. it creates artificial demand for schlocky woke rags. only so many books are published each year. for every woke rag that gets pushed through, that's one less potentially good book that gets published. this is actively harming readers.

Listen, we’re not going to agree on this and I can accept that but please try and look at your argument from the other side:
>people read and like what they’re told to read and like

Speaking as an author whose work is in public libraries i can tell you they pay and pay well. I love getting library sales because
1: they pay better than the online retailers
2: you can potentially reach hundreds of readers over the time period the book is in the library.

I'll take every library sale i can get.
