Explain Buddhism to me. If nothing means anything then why do they bother reading all that shit?

>why do they bother
You act as if people can help bothering.
They can't.
They can only help their attachment to bothering.

Buddhism doesn't claim that nothing means anything, that would be insane and incoherent. It does however assert that human beings are aflame with delusion which they need to overcome by cultivating detachment (aka "being objective"). Not a very outlandish view.

Buddhism is not about renouncing desire, it is about renouncing attachment. Desire rooted in attachment obviously has to go as well by relation.

>If nothing means anything then why do they bother reading all that shit?
because everything means the world and nothing at all at the same time.

god is you, satan is you, the minor and arch devils and angels are all you as well.

all dimensions of the percievable and unpercievable universe are all within you.

to wish ill will on anyone or anything is to hurt only yourself.

>>I desire to cease desiring
how about:
I am grateful for
what I have already stopped
taking offense to,
and grateful that there
are more strife and mysteries
to solve within me.

your wordplay only works if you ingore the actual pali words on the suttas

You can't cease desiring. You can cease being attached to desiring.

you do understand that this sounds like wordplay, correct? desire and craving can easily be taken as one in the same thing.

Would a better way to put it be a desire to cease desiring? Or maybe a desire to go past particular desires into a more absolute all encompassing fundemental contentment.

the goal of buddhism is to end dukkha, it turns out dukkha is conditioned by desire so the price to pay is to kill desire. end of story.

>> No.21477285

by the way 99% of all people don't want to end suffering and even the few you do refuse to end desire

buddhism is never for the masses

the way you explain it sounds obfuscations and perfunctory.

I can see desire being conceptualized as a subset of goal or motivational force, but it it still a kind of goal or motivational force in itself. So is it an attempt to reach a higher goal that requires the abandonment of a lesser?
