There's a passage during Genji's mourning of Aoi's death that I particularly like and would like to have a reference for the passage in the source text - only my reading of the book is Waley's heavily abridged edition.

It's been a while but I think her name was the lady of the orange blossoms. Whatever the lady was who wasn't the prettiest but Genji always appreciated for her intelligence and taste. I just found Murasaki boring. She doesn't have much personality and was just there to compliment Genji. Aoi was nice too.
