Poetry does nothing for me. Am I retarded? I love reading and more than a few novels have provided me with both aesthetic bliss and meaningful insight. Poetry does nothing for me though. Besides for Dante. Am I big retard? I admit to being autistic but the cool laid back kind.

>Poetry does nothing for me. Am I retarded?
Man delights not me/
No nor woman neither/
Though by your smirking you seem to think so.

Are you reading poetry that have being translated or not?
Have you ever read/study poetry from a textbook that had good analysis?
This stuff matters especially for begginers

Yes

The form's fine, but in almost all poetry I've read the execution is bad. It's either like icing without cake, or a riddle dressed and accessorized in bad taste

Here's a good poem:

Little kids shoot marbles
where the branches break the sun

into graceful shafts of light…
I just want to be pure.

-Jim Carroll

What do you think?

No.
Poetry without music is useless.

This is why people hate poetry!

Above all I think poetry tends to be from the poet to himself, its an incredible form of self expression but it is horrible to get the meaning across. This means that poetry is harder to get into, than say, prose. In a way is like more "abstract" paintings.
Try writing your own poems and see if this rings true to you and maybe this will help you to get into poetry in general.

I'm trying to get into Poetry atm
Right now I'm studying William Blake and Shakespeare
I like reading some Japanese/Chinese poems sometimes

I'd say that the definition of something being "poetic" is that it captures something well with words

Does the Eagle know what is in the pit?
Or wilt thou go ask the Mole:
Can Wisdom be put in a silver rod?
Or Love in a golden bowl?

Yeah I guess, but I think we also tend to call things poetic if they sound pleasing or good, not necessarily if they convey a feeling well enough for the audience, besides vague aesthethics.
I think it depends upon the poet and his capacity to get the message across, but in general I would say poetry is more personal and as such it tends to be harder to decipher. Its not that poetry doesn't describe a feeling well, just that I takes more time to really appreciate and understand what even you are reading. Does it make sense?
Btw your post makes me think of something, that use of the word 'poetic' would mean that poetry is not intrissically poetic. Interesting

What? Really? There are some poems I didn't like but after having read/listened to analysis about them I begin to appreciate them because of it.
I really like when poets use language in a very smart way, unfortunately I am not that great at noticing it.
