What books capture life in contemporary Britain?

I'm talking about life in the deanoboxes, the terraces, the Paki ghettos, the post-industrial wastelands. I'm talking about the rape gangs, the male suicide epidemic, Amazon fulfillment wageslavery. I want to read about the zero contract shift workers, the obsessive NEET loners stuck in their Mum's spare room. Post-Covid hangovers and vaccine brainwashing. Mass surveillance. Holier-than-thou BBC pontification. Travelling to work on an over-crowded bus, standing about in the job centre. The clash of working class pleb culture and the privately educated upper class. I'm talking rainy walks with the dog. I need roundabouts, industrial estates, anal sex, cornershops, the exodus to London, Spice addicts, humanities graduates working in bars, the home ownership crisis, identity politics, ethnomasochism, historical revisionism, Primark, retail work, modern feminism, high rents, boomer resentment, ethnic replacement, isolation, social media, hookup culture, brand identity.

Who is writing books about these issues desu? Doesn't have to be British btw. Just about the west in general since these are common themes.

This is one instance where I would recommend watching some brit TV shows which capture and allow you to see contemporary Britain so much better than any book could portray through text.

Watch Peepshow.

When I was homeless and living on the streets in Paris I got taken in by a group of Afghans. One guy got really nervous because for some reason he thought I was an undercover cop, he was quizzing me on all sorts of stuff and shaking, poor chap. The rest of them took me in with the most perfect Pashtun hospitality, and we sat together and ate chicken bryiani.

After that I spent some time in the south squatting in an abandoned mansion and hanging around soup kitchens. Ended up buying cigarettes from the mob and reselling them to tourists at a slight markup.

Stop being so xenophobic OP, and try to get away from the bobos. Anglo countries are meloncholy crab buckets, but in the Paki ghettos you can still find some dredges of SOVL.

There are no rape gangs. British teenage girls are just so batshit crazy that they are unironically attracted to hideous paki kebabshop owners. Many of them dont see themselves as victims and live with their supposed rapists.

I want to write my magnum opus on the travesty of modern Britain. I have tons of ideas. I'd be the West Midlands answer to Houllebecq. But I'm a straight, white, mid-30s male. As if it would ever see the light of day.

Harassment Architecture, seriously. A third of the book is good, especially during the first half, the rest is mediocre and/or bad. It has no coherent plot and is instead a mixture of many short stories that have little in common but disdain for life in the contemporary west. Anyway it's short and can be amusing, try it. I haven't read the newer book, it seemed as if he hadn't improved at all according to the reviews here. A shame, he has some talent.
Houellebecq is worth checking out as well.

Money by Amis is a good overview of thaterite britain. The corrosive effect of cheap money, neoliberalism and radical individualism on the fabric of uk society. Ballrad does this pretty well too but Amis is a much better character writer.
Money is funny af, especially if you picture the protagonist being played by MAtt Berry.
No idea about contemporary stuff. If there was a book about the gritty reality of contemporary britian I don't think I'd read it. Its depressing enough living it.

Still, at least we're not America
